Rationale &
Objectives
After
introducing English in the 9th grade in the Moroccan educational
system, Middle school teachers of English
have become
focal points and a major concern for MATE national. Accordingly, servicing this
population of
the Moroccan
ELT community has become one of our priorities. This year, the Moroccan
Association of Teachers
of English
(MATE), in collaboration with the department
of curricula, the national coordination of Inspectors
and the
‘delegation’ of Marrakech Mnara, organizes the first middle school seminar for
teachers of English
under the
title: “Middle School Teacher Development:
Towards Better Practice” on 9-10 March, 2007
at ‘Centre
d’accueil des jeunes’, Marrakech.
The main
objectives of this seminar is to provide further practice opportunities for
teachers at the junior high school
level on
basic issues in ELT in order to enable them to meet the requirements of the
curriculum as well as the expectations
of the
students, the parents and the community at large. MATE is also open to all
suggestions on how it may provide its services.
It can, for
example, organize documents sharing and exchange of information and experiences
among these teachers.
